2022 calls for nominations are open!

The Mail & Guardian’s Power of Women will be a celebration of the contribution of South African women leaders from all walks of life and communities who are leading the charge to build a more sustainable future for all. These are the frontrunners whose lives serve as beacons of hope, whose voices provide structure, comfort and solutions to everyday difficulties and whose creative minds have contributed to society’s development.

As we observe Women’s Month this August, the Mail and Guardian seeks to align and resonate with this year’s UN’s International Women’s Day theme: “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.” We lend our voices to the #BreakTheBias campaign.

From 6 July to 6 August 2022, the M&G invites you to share your story or the story of a powerful woman leader who is striving to achieve development for South Africa through gender equality, and who is actively building a sustainable tomorrow.

Criteria:

  • The women you nominate must in some way consistently advance policies, projects and engagement that strive for a gender equal tomorrow. This work can happen inside or outside the workplace.
  • It must be women who champion the importance of mentorship, equitable representation, diversity and transformation in their communities and workplaces.
  • These women must actively support and develop their communities, be involved in capacity building as well as spearheading efforts to lift others out of poverty.
  • We are looking for submissions from or about women who are innovating and problem-solving to adapt to current national and global realities.
  • Their achievements must  clearly demonstrate the adoption of structures and frameworks that support cross-gender empowerment, gender sensitisation and education activities as well as active lobbying for inclusion and the transformation of South Africa’s spaces.
  • These are the women who have worked valiantly over the past years to keep us safe, healthy, employed and informed.
